So- I get some of the science behind this but found the metaphor really to be a struggle, and some of the application to be greatly oversimplified. I'm not an SME in this topic but would not be surprised if an SME found a lot to criticize- if you find something helpful in it, more power to you.

The original concept and explanation was really interesting and the first half of the book was pretty good. It is really just  a reworking "Thinking Fast and Slow", with system 1 renamed as "Chimp" brain and system 2 as "Human Brain".

The second half then became very self help and repetitive. It was really tedious and kept rehashing the same concept over and over shich pulled my impression of the book down overall for me.

My advice - just find a blog post or YouTube video that explains this.

I enjoyed this book and found some areas useful, such as the sections on motivation and happiness. However, I found the analogies and metaphors hard to keep track of and they distracted me from the underlying message. I didn't like the overuse (imo) of the planets, moons, gremlins, goblins and so on. Overall, a good book and a good intro to behaviour and motivation.

In general im skeptical of self-help stuff but i I do believe this book has some stuff worth grokking.
The book is quite stuffed and could probably have been split up into a few different books so I think it would make more sense to read it in chunks rather than the whole thing through.

In essence this book could be replaced by the mantra "I am a logical and reasonable person who experience emotions that I can not control, only manage." But it also gives you a lot of helpful tools to get there.
