I thought this was a fantastic book. Very easy to understand and an invaluable tool. I know a few people who started it then dropped it because they thought it was all too obvious, but I'd encourage those people to give it another go. Gives the reader a really good insight into why we act/think the way we do, what we can do about it, and how to deal with others. Now that I've finished it, I'll keep dipping in to it, and will also use the tools it contains to work out goals for myself. If you've ever struggled with relationships of any sort (work/personal etc.), had emotional ups and downs, lacked motivation for goals etc., then read this book!
Fun and insightful medium sized self-help book. Nothing too earth shattering but more of a new way to look at things you already know.
Not my thing. I found it boring and didn't see the point of it.

One of the best self-help books I've ever read. The Chimp Paradox walks the reader through a simplistic model discussing different parts of the brain and how they work, along with strategies in order to manage how you want to feel and operate with the limitations of the Chimp (limbic system) at play. Some of the examples were not as nuanced or directed as I would have preferred, which is why I've given this four and a half stars instead of five. An enjoyable read that I will pick up again.
I have read countless "self-help" books over the years, but very rarely (almost never!) have they actually helped me. However, this book might just change my life. I am currently having CBT for an eating disorder I have suffered with for around 10 years, and this book has really helped me to understand and reinforce some of the techniques I have been using over the past four weeks and it is written in a way I can easily relate to. The exercises and techniques this book uses are so versatile that they can be easily applied to any person, situation or condition. The book is based on and uses scientific principles but there is no technical jargon that would discourage anyone from reading it. In the past, I have been both overwhelmed and consequently disheartened after finishing a so-called "self-help" book, but this one has filled me with hope and positivity.

3.5-4 stars. An informative and easy read to understand one way of breaking down the human mind in order to regain better management and control of our actions. Lots of prompts for self reflection and potential improvement by asking the reader to truly question what it is they want in life and how they can take better steps to achieve fulfilment.
Looses a star for its basic assumptions and generalisations, of course it is a not a choice for everyone to be happy or confident, this book isn’t for everyone.

Although many of the reviews on here put the book down for it's second half, I have to disagree. This book is extremely reachable, with simple explanations and great analogies that everyone can relate to, no matter your age or education level. It helped me massively to better understand why I sometimes react to things the way I do, and to understand the minds of others. Dr Peters uses'case studies' of seemingly real people to help the reader better understand the consequences of reacting in certain ways, which leaves the book much more accessible to a broad audience. Everything in here, despite it getting slightly confusing towards the end, screams truth. I'm sure once reading this it could help everyone even a little bit in life.
