This book started very strong. It was funny, and I was laughing out loud. I thought the shenanigans were great and it jumped into the plot quickly without dragging it out. I liked what Scottie was dealing with from her previous marriage as it made for a compelling reason why she was withdrawn and nervous in starting a relationship. I also appreciate that the two characters didn’t fall for each other right away and say I love you. I liked that they spent time with each other outside of the camp to see how well they’d mesh as well.
With that being said, I thought this book was pretty long. I’m in the “rom coms shouldn’t be longer than 350 pages” boat. The first half of this flew by—I read 200 pages in a day when I first started. The second half dragged for me though. I felt like Wilder just ultimately became a simp. I thought he was funny and had a personality in the beginning and then it just became Scottie this and that and everything is for her and it’s like bro please do something else? Idk he changed. His whole backstory was horrible yet we hardly spent much time on it. He was a millionaire for literally no reason. So he could afford the camp? Idk, I felt like Scotties boss could’ve given her the experience without making her pay for it if she really wanted Scottie to succeed in her relationship.
I thought the names in this book were the stupidest names I’ve read in a contemporary book in a while.
Once they hooked up, it seemed that was all they did. I’m glad Scottie felt confident and like what she deserved with Wilder, but oh my god, I didn’t need ten descriptions of dick pricing. We get it. He has a dick piercing. But yeah, there was a lot of sex. I’m not a prude but after a while it was like…okay. Do something else.
The biggest thing that got on my nerves was that the dialogue was so expositional. There are other ways to give readers information rather than having characters ask plot moving questions. It was just frustrating because people never talk like that! I just wish there had been other ways to show me the character was changing instead of telling me how much they changed through dialogue.
Also Sanders’ clothing choices were NEVER given a good explanation and that is stupid.
