Well, this one is sadly becoming less accessible as the decades pass since it was written. There were parts even I didn't understand! My nine-year-old picked it off the shelf and really enjoyed places (I read it out loud). There was at least one place that was so offensive, I couldn't even read it out loud- different times and all. Still provides lots of laughs.

I loved this book as a young teen, and read it over and over. We listened to the audiobook as a family on a roadtrip this week, and it held up pretty well! The attitudes of the early 1900s are certainly present--but the efficiency stuff is all so fun, and the teaching methods, and the general boisterous and loving family feel. 3.5 stars.

After many starts and stops, I finished reading this book to my daughter tonight, where she was about the same age that I read it. It is still wonderful.
