Yep its challenging for sure but worth it. This world is incredible, one of the greatest works of imagination in the fantasy genre. There is SO MUCH going on here but NONE of it feels tacky or dumb. The writing style didn't have as much description as I like unfortunately which is my only problem with this book. Characters were solid but Kruppe and Rake were the only ones I REALLY liked. But apparently this series just gets continually better so I'll stick with it.

Not an easy read.

The novel had so many characters and so much going on it's often difficult to follow the plot. However, it keeps you interested just enough to move on to book two.

I am SO glad to be done with this book. Was the writing eloquent? Sure. Were the characters interesting? Most of them. Was it an intriguing world? I'd say so. Did I enjoy jumping between dozens of characters, sometimes spending less than a page with them? Nope. Did I know what was going on for half of the book? Not really. It's a shame because there are a lot of good things about it but it ended up being something I had to grit my teeth and power through.

Once I got a few chapters in it started to click and I could stop flipping to the glossary or running to the wiki. I’m very excited to keep reading the series and see where the story goes. It’s impossible to know if I’ll like a brand new cast of characters in every book since I’ve never read a series like this before, but it’s so well written and I have faith in the authors.
The ending was a little disappointing because as everything was starting to converge it just felt like a big anime battle and the closure didn’t feel as genuine. Still great overall.
