Insanely detailed world building with a confusing and fairly boring plot for 2/3 of the book. It was only past the first two thirds that I started to have some grip on what was going on and started caring. The first two thirds, I felt mild amusement and mild boredom
This book literally put me to sleep several times. I had to push myself to keep moving. That said, it had a good ending and I will be reading the sequel.

Whew! Third time lucky, finished it this time.
Never before I have read book which is so incomprehensible and confusing and at the same time so engrossing. It took me about halfway through the book to get any foothold about the plot which by the way was slippery at best. Its like the author is giving you the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle at random but no original image to know where to put the pieces. It was the characters that kept me glued - makes GOT look like a nuclear family :) - everyone of them so engaging though Kruppe takes the crown.
Just keep reading until the plot starts to makes sense and the end is rewarding.

Great book. 5 stars even though its a very difficult read.
DNF’d it at 26%. Some characters and events were interesting, and I think it’s got nice prose and decent writing, even. But it’s just far to meandering with in world jargon that is never explained that I just don’t connect with anything going on.
I have finished reading. This was a struggle for me, but I would still recommend it...as it was really good. But, it was not my cup of tea.

I restarted the book recently, and I am currently on page 367. I am enjoying the storyline and characters, but MY GOD, I feel like I have NO CLUE what is going on. I am not sure what is driving the plotline, I am not sure what the characters are doing (or why), and I am unable to figure out for whom I should be rooting for.
I think I am honestly most overwhelmed by the fact I am 75% done with this story and I am not sure how to feel about what I am reading. AND I am overwhelmed by the idea that there are another 9 BOOKS (Like 8000+ pages), and I honestly, do not have it in me. I am going to finish this books, because it is important to me at this point that I see it through...but I doubt I will pick up book 2 for a while (if ever).

Kind of a sloppy book, but pretty fun. Seems like it would benefit from some editing.

Incredible world-building but it felt like the book was over-complicated for the sake of being over-complicated. The first half to two-thirds of it felt largely unnecessary.
