I loved how she explained the back stories of some of the characters, and kept everything interesting.

This second book in the series had a perfect balance of set backs and plot movers. One complaint I had about book 1 was that there were very few plot movers and too many set backs along the journey so I was glad to see the balance in book 2.

Representation: straights (one mention of an off-page mlm couple).

This series continues to be a delight! The continued exploration of the magic system - splendor! - is so interesting and the character development with Koffi and Ekon in their new respective environments works really well in this book. I wasn't the biggest fan of the third perspective this time around... I get why it was included, and it did inform Koffi's character, but with everything going on in the main plot, Bindi's chapters were always a bit of a drag and took me out of the book. I also get a sense that I prefer both Koffi and Ekon with their respective secondary love interests... Tropes will trope and I know Koffi and Ekon will end up together but I almost don't want them to now.

When Fedu, the god of Death impressions Koffi, her friend: Ekon sets off on a quest to find and rescue her.
An amazing original fantasy that draws inspiration from African culture and folklore.
