I enjoyed this more than Beasts of Prey but I think that had more to do with listening to the audiobook rather than reading the physical book. The narrators weren’t particularly great (the narrator for Ekon kept veering into Yoda territory) but these books are a bit slow and easy to get bogged down in, so being able to listen while I was doing other things helped me power through. Maybe because I took such a large break between the first and second books I didn’t really buy Koffi and Elon’s relationship either. It seemed to me that they could have each been off on their own adventure, not necessarily trying to get to each other, and I would have been fine with it. Not sure if I’ll continue with this series. The potential is definitely there, but a stronger edit would have made this a much tighter and more compelling story.

Beasts of Ruin (#2 of 3 in a series)
Ayana Gray

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

OPENING LINE: "In the fragile hours before dawn, this city belongs to its monsters."

ONE SENTENCE SUMMARY: Ekon and Koffi have gotten separated and are trying to find their way back to each other while meeting and helping new people along the way.

• Listened to audiobook
• Adventurous
• Great characters
• A little drawn out but there was a pleasant little twist I didnt see coming
• Characters were separated but each went through his/her development
• Complicated the romance part of the story
• Introduced some new, very likeable characters
• Cool to see more darajas and their affinities
