a fun sequel to the Extinction trials.
I have to admit, I expected a bit more I guess. And it's really hard to pinpoint what it is exactly that made me feel this way.
I missed the presence of dinosaurs on a more frequent level I guess. I mean, they ARE present, don't get me wrong. And they are off on a killing spree, as usual, which is 10 different kinds of awesomeness, lol. But I just expected more grandeur I guess? More T-Rex? It felt a bit mellow in comparison to book 1. And most of all: WHERE IS MILO?! <- me sad! I hope he returns in the next book. @author: please, don't let me hanging here? I loved Storm's relationship with Milo and the fact that because of Milo there's a whole other 'side' of the dinosaurs to learn about, despite of only thinking they can be brutal killing machines.
I did like the development of the 'relationship' between Storm and her father throughout this book and I'm really looking forward to reading more about these two characters in the next installment. Lincoln was a joy to read about again and I just love his determination of helping his sister in any way he can, even by going back to the Dinosaur continent. He's such a sweet, brave guy and I also can't help shipping him with Storm, even though there isn't really a developed romance present. But they have such an amazing bond, regardless of how things ended in book 1, that just needs to be explored further I think. So I haven't given up hope yet, lol.
Overall it was a fun, fast-paced read just as the first book. I liked it okay enough, definitely, but it just didn't wow me as much as the first book did though. Mostly because there weren't a lot of surprises in comparison to book 1 and because of what I talked about earlier; the mellowness of it all - at least, that's what it felt like to me while reading this book. It feels like a typical #2 in a series/trilogy in which the story expands and is building up towards a final installment. But I'm definitely curious to see how it all continues in the next book; the story-line and the character developments and hopefully some more vicious dinosaur encounters!

The writing definitely improved in this one. The sentence structures flowed better, and there were less useless words strewn about.
The plot was a bit of a let down. Just as we did with the first book, we spend the first half on the human continent, then there’s the expedition to Piloria, and their fight for survival on the dinosaur continent. The plot twists were entirely too foreshadowed, some plot points overused and clichéd, so the big reveals were obvious from the moment they started to be introduced.
Even though they had a different mission, Exile felt a bit repetitive. I would have liked a different story altogether, maybe some more Parliament intrigue, some more politics, something that isn’t a copy-paste of the first book.
The love story was minimal, leaving us to focus on the plot instead, and Storm’s relationship with her father. This is definitely not a case of insta-love, with us being on the second book and the romance only just starting to really develop.
As for Lincoln, I wasn’t a fan of his chapters. His willingness to sacrifice all of the dinosaurs for a cure for his sister’s illness didn’t sit right with me, as it reminded me too much of European colonialism. I wish he’d think of others outside of his little family bubble.
The questions about the world that I had during the first book weren’t answered at all, and I think that at this point I will just have to make them up myself.
I did enjoy the ending. I felt like Storm made the right decision, and it lays some excellent bases for the next book, which I hope won’t be the same one yet again.

I enjoyed this book the most out of the trilogy. It was fast paced, full of action and we finally got some hints and a possible romance between Stormchaser and Lincoln which was a nice little bonus.
What did make me laugh was realising just how much influence the author took from Hunger Games.
For example, in the first books of both series, people apply for the trials/games because they get good/extra food. They are then prepped, trained and taken somewhere life threatening for some reason or another. Not everyone comes home alive. In fact, very few do in both books.
In books two of both series, the candidates who have to go back are chosen from a pool of those who have already experienced this once and are being forced to go back a second time.
If you step back and look, books one and two of both this series and the Hunger Games are extremely similar and even though I enjoyed this book, something about that just felt a little iffy to me.
There were a lot of clunky paragraphs and a lot of repetitiveness when it came to descriptions of how the characters reacted to things but still overall enjoyable.
