A pretty interesting idea, a female firefighter trying find her way at her new firehouse after a series of events, some family, some her own making cause her to transfer. She and a true rookie join the firehouse at the same time and grow to be friends while dealing with the shenanigans of earning their spots on the team. While well written, I was taken aback by the main plot point of the character revolving around a sexual assault she experienced in high school. I did not expect the plot twist towards the end although it felt like the story fell into the trope of needing someone else to make you whole which seemed to violate the characters self sufficiency that defined her for post of the book. While a sweet romance, I would be careful when reading to make sure you are in a place mentally to handle the assault plot point.

Thought the book was gonna be a little more kickass than it actually was. Had the feeling that the book was moving a little too quickly with insufficient build-up to climaxes, and the climaxes in turn were pretty predictable. Enjoyed the theme on forgiveness but is it really so easy as described?

This book was just okay. I like stories with a female main character that is not only supposed to be strong, but also has stuff to work through, however I thought the main character was a bit annoying. Overall the story was okay, but I think the main character could have been written in a less “not like other girls” way and it would have been more believable.

This is my first book from Katherine Center. I'd seen it floating around on social media, and when my friends were discussing Center at the library, I scooched on over to the shelf and picked up this one. This didn't really land for me, and I'm not sure if it's the writing style or the tropes in this book being an absolute jumble of things I hate, so I'll have to try a different one after this.
I never really grew to love Cassie, and I especially never found any sympathy for Diana. Good grief, what a selfish woman. I did really like Owen (although I had to stop myself from gagging at the fact that Cassie didn't bother to learn his name until halfway through the book), but their romance felt very shallow. It was basically insta-love because he's hot and she's strong. They had very little foundation or growth and it felt ridiculous.
But Things You Save In A Fire was a quick and moderately enjoyable comfort read when I needed something light, so it has earned its three stars.
