I got such Stepford Wives vibes with this one. I was hooked with the idea that there was a suburb of perfect families. There was no way! The twists in this one were awesome. I didn’t see them coming. Thank you to Macmillan Audio and Netgalley for this audio arc.

So I enjoyed this for the most part. I honestly think this would be more relatable for someone who is both married and a mother ( I am neither) because the reader in my opinion would be able to relate to more of what our main character Nora is going through throughout the story. I appreciated the conversations brought up around the dynamics between the roles of husband and wife, mother and father. Trying to juggle demanding careers while also taking care of a household and also having that sense of belonging. I felt slightly disappointed with the ending of this book and how abrupt it felt. The twist wasn't really that exciting and felt a tad bit rushed. Throughout this story we know Nora is work on a wrongful death case, but there is another sort of 'accident' that took place and when it was revealed it just left me feeling like 'that's it'. The ending just left me wanting more. I would still recommend, other readers could take away something that I might have missed. Still an enjoyable read!

The Husband's gives us a look into Nora's head a successful lawyer, mom and wife. Though she's stretched so thin. When she finds her dream house in Dynasty Ranch her husband Hayden isn't so sure till Nora meets the women in the community. I enjoyed investigating the fire and death of Richard. Also the relatibleness of doing so much for everyone that goes unnoticed.

Thank you flatiron books for my review copy.

Thank you to Chandler Baker & Flatiron Books for the ARC!

Really really enjoyed this story! There was a moment near the beginning where I thought it might be a reverse Stepford Wives which bummed me out a bit—I hate when stories pull directly from another with a slight change! Glad I continued reading because I kept making different guesses at the ending and, to be honest, none were right. Well written in that it played out in my head like a movie or tv series and was fairly relatable.

While this book wasn't my favorite read of all time, it was certainly enjoyable and made me think. As a retelling of the Stepford Wives, Baker considers what seeming equality could look like if husbands were aware of their wives' external work. It's brilliant in that sense. It does it's job of providing a mystery for protagonist Nora Spangler to solve that is wrapped in a larger mystery for the reader. It asks tough questions like what is equality, how do we divide household roles, and is it really equal to have a divided work in the home/work out of the home dynamic. However, Baker relies on rich suburbia to tell her story. She writes a cast of female characters who are white collar workers with children and husbands. She completely foregoes any conversation of queer relationships or ones where the women work jobs other than white collar professionals. Race is a small touchstone but far from elaborate or nuanced. Those, I know, are the not the points of the story, but I would have liked to see them included nevertheless.

Thanks to #macmillanaudio #netgalley & #flatiron_books for providing me with this advanced listener audiobook. I enjoyed this different feminist thriller with the intermittent mom perspectives within blogs and columns. Although I’m not a mom, I enjoyed the insight and perspective of moms who feel overworked and under-appreciated in their households. However, this story lost me toward the second half of the book that took an unrealistic turn into more of a horror story and I was really rooting for none of the characters

I received this ARC from a giveaway during a Virtual Book Club discussion with Reese's Book Club and HelloSunshine and I couldn't have been more excited! The Husbands has some major Stepford Wives vibes, but with the roles reversed, and snarky feminist undertones and I will definitely be recommending this one to pretty much every woman I know.

Nora Spangler and her husband are house hunting in an ultra exclusive suburban neighborhood called Dynasty Ranch. Once they discover she is a lawyer, she quickly gets roped into the group of high-powered women living in the community as they turn to her for legal help in a potential wrongful death suit of one the residents. As she becomes more involved with these women and their seemingly perfect husbands, she starts to realize that what is visible on the surface isn't exactly all that it seems.

This was such a fun book and very different from the thrillers I've been reading lately. While categorized as a thriller, it also felt like a somewhat snarky commentary on society and the expectations of women in the workforce. There were times where this point may have been labored a little heavy, but I couldn't get enough of it.

This is a must read for anyone that feels the "equal" division of labor in their household may not be all that equal after all and the burden of trying to take care of everything on their own.
