Nora Spangler does it all: literally. From taking care of her daughter, her home, and her husband, to being a successful attorney, she's at her breaking point. With the impending birth of their second child, Nora and her husband go house hunting in the elite neighborhood of Dynasty Ranch. The women here are successful, in the understatement of the century. Nora quickly makes friends and before she knows it, agrees to represent one of the women in a wrongful death case. But something is amiss here, and Nora intends to find out just what it is.
If you're like me, I think you'll figure out what's going on relatively quickly, but it was the why it was happening that kept me turning pages. I really enjoyed how fast-paced the story was, but the ending in my opinion was just not it. Spoilers aside, I was just super disappointed.
Also, if you are a working woman on the fence about having kids, this just might solidify your decision for you.

Big thank you to hachete and tandem collective global for sending me this copy. This book was kind of a wild ride.
There were huge southern book clubs guide to slaying vampires vibes, minus the whole gory horror stuff in this one! I feel like a lot of married women related to our main character, Nora in this book and I can definitely see why. There are so many points for discussion in this one, especially relating to the “division” of work in the household, where even though the husbands do help out, they always have to be told what to do, and at the end of the day it’s always the woman carrying the mental list of what needs to be done. I definitely think some of the blog posts scattered through the book are really important and carry some great messages, especially for men to read so that they have an understanding of the amount of unpaid labour a woman does.
The rest of the book was alright, Nora was really frustrating as a protagonist and although I can see why the ending was shocking to most people, I sort of had an idea about what was going to happen.
All in all, an okay book but I wouldn’t recommend dropping everything and reading it asap.

What an interesting concept for a book! I loved this idea that Chandler Baker had of an idyllic world where the husbands did their fair share and the wives didn’t feel all the burdens of running a household. However, as the story unfolds you realize there is something very sinister going on. Welcome to Dynasty Ranch, a housing development in a good neighborhood where everything looks perfect on the outside. I loved listening to the audio of this book. The narrator was good and kept the story at a good flow. Nora Spangler and her husband Hayden are searching for a new home when they find a listing in Dynasty Ranch. Nora immediately wants to get the house but Hayden is hesitant. When she gets asked to represent Penny March in her wrongful death lawsuit, the mystery begins of how her husband died. I loved the way the story unfolded and the buildup to the ending was slow, but in a good way because it kept me guessing until the end. Wickedly funny, with a cast of powerful women characters, this would make a great movie or TV series. Thank you Netgalley and Macmillan audio for the advanced audio copy!

The Husbands is an entertaining, though somewhat predictable, read. Great for summer travel or poolside reading. Thank you to NetGalley for providing this audiobook for my review.

Dynasty Ranch is an idyllic neighborhood, and Nora, a hard-working attorney who is eager to make partner at her law firm, is eager to buy a house there. Her professional life seems to be right on track and going well... but her domestic life? Well, she feels like all she does is pack lunches and take care of her daughter and Nora wishes her husband would work just a bit harder, share the responsibilities so to speak.
This is a winding, gripping thriller reminiscent of the Stepford Wives and a unique story commenting on the expectations for women, working, and marriage. I was invested from the first chapter, curious to see where the story would go, and things unravel slowly until you reach a certain point, and then you won't be able to stop reading until you know the ending.
My only qualm with this story was the ending, which I thought fell a bit flatter than the rest of the story. However, there is a final twist that was surprising but interesting.
The audio is great, the narrator sucks you in and keeps you listening!
Highly recommend for thriller readers, particularly women-centered thrillers.

It's not that I hated this book...I'm indifferent. It wasn't terrible, but it was a trek to get through.
First of all, Nora is the most whiny and passive character and so many of her annoyances could be solved with effective communication. Nora is your typical working mom - she's stressed, overwhelmed, and wondering how to balance it all. She feels her husband isn't pulling his weight and the resentment is building. He's a good dad and a great husband, he just doesn't help enough.
Nora meets the women of Dynasty Ranch, a community the couple is looking to purchase a house in. The DR couples seem so cool and collected, and the husbands are hands on and enthusiastic about parenting and helping around the house. Has Nora entered the Twilight Zone???
The Dynasty Ranch crew are very much Stepford Wives, and they share some dark secrets. Nora sets out to find the truth about these women and the community. The twist was not surprising enough, however the last sentence did throw me off! There was so much unnecessary backstory and filler, and the first half was a struggle to get through. If you're expecting a thriller, this is not it. It was an extremely slow domestic "mystery".
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this novel early!

I received this e-arc from the publisher and NetGalley in return for an honest review.
Overall I enjoyed this book and read it in a couple of days. I completely understood the idea that these hard working women were needing extra assistance from their partners.
I felt like the main character Nora was relatable especially with how hard she works and always feeling like as a woman it was harder to get further in life. How her work at home and with her child was overlooked when it came to her husband and her boss.
Overall I give this a solid 3.5 stars, and the reason that I gave it 3.5 stars was because I found the plot very predictable and I found it a bit infuriating that Nora didn't cotton on sooner. I know that I am an 'outsider' looking in, but I just didn't fully buy it. However, the characters and the writing style did make up for this as I did want to see how it ended and how it was all wrapped up. The plot although I guessed what happened was a good one and enjoyable for what it was.
Would I recommend this book? Yeah I would, as it was an interesting premise and another reader may not pick up on a plot as quick as myself and enjoy it for everything it is.
