The story of Tig is simply incredible!! It's heartbreaking and hopefull all in one!
I couldn't put this story down. I think everyone who has a strange relationship with one or more parents can relate to something in Tig Notaro's story. It's amazing what one person can go through in the space of just a year. I heard a review once of someone who didn't like this book because they thought it would be funnier and honestly I don't get that because, sure Notaro is a comedian but this isn't a comedy book, it's the story of her real life. I also found that there were certainly points where you just had to laugh, sometimes at yourself.
This book didn't change my life or unearth any deeply buried emotions, but I'm happy I took the time to read it and if you've been wondering about it, I suggest you do the same.

I loved this book. I love how Tig remembers things; how she unravels her memories. She is a great storyteller.

TIg Notaro is one of my favorite comedians so I was excited to read her book, which I only just recently discovered exists. This is a pretty popular genre of book -- the comedian memoir. I had never read one before so I thought Tig would be a good first try at it.
Unfortunately, I'll probably never try another. There's nothing wrong with the book, really, but I think it's missing something. Something that makes her interviews and stand-up performances so great. You even get some of her jokes from her stand-up here, but they fall much flatter here, I think.
So while I love her stand-up and enjoy just seeing her on talk shows, I think her book just misses out on some of the non-verbal aspects of her performances that make her so amazing.
Anyrate, it's short and it's worth checking out if you're a fan. You may have a much better reaction to it than I did.
