I’m still not quite sure how I feel about this book. It started off well-written, engrossing, and fun. I felt that, around page 90, it started to slowly go downhill. By the middle/end of the book, I found myself wanting to finish it as quickly as possible, so I could see how it resolved but move on to a better book.

Ideas: 4 stars
Execution: 2 stars (1.5?)

There were a lot of cool ideas in this book, and the worldbuilding was pretty effective. The execution, however, really dragged it down. There was a lot of angst for the sole purpose of angst, and reading series of pages about how much one of the MCs was always getting abandoned, and perhaps it was her fault for being unworthy of love, was frankly boring and annoying.

There were some parts of the writing that felt immature and just *off*. The way romantic feelings were described was so cliched that I sometimes wanted it to just stop. The comphet, coming-to-terms-with-sexuality, and really any conversations or thoughts about identity, felt awkward and weird.

I was drawn to this book for the lesbian vampire boarding school story. Ultimately, I received a cliche-ridden book that felt somewhat dystopian, with an intriguing but poorly-paced mystery at the heart of it. I mostly enjoyed the ride, although I’m disappointed because this could have been so much better.

i loved this book, but some of the characters made me want to rip out my eyelashes and eat them.

This was fun. That’s all I have to say.
