Oh my God. That was amazing!

First 5 star read of 2023. That was an incredible story: so honest, raw and beautiful.
My favorite parts have to be how he talks about domestic violence: something I was not expecting going in. Racism and apartheid history I was expecting but what bought me to choking tears was the reality of domestic violence.
There were a few things that were not right: the ending was a bit abrupt, at times; specifically in the first half of the book: the writing was superficial, there were a few repetitive things in the middle; but they were over shadowed specially at the end cause the story reached a peak too fast.
I haven’t read any autobiographical works before this, so I wouldn’t know much how other people share their stories but, I was just reading some reviews with fewer ratings and they thought this book was just a coming of age story which wasn’t deep. I guess, people expect you to tell every thing about you in an autobiography but does any one ever do that? Wouldn’t an autobiography be how you look back at your life, through your adult lens, wouldn’t it? Wouldn’t it be parts of your story you want to share, not all of it?

I can think of a couple of people on the top of my head who need to read this ASAP; My family, my friends, my followers.
If this is how amazing the non fiction journey is going to be, then bring it on.

One of the best audiobooks I've ever listened to. Laugh out loud hilarious and heartbreaking at the same time. Really great.

Oh my gosh.
When you're a kid, they teach you about racism in America. You learn about Britain colonizing the world. You watch, "The Color of Friendship" from the Disney Channel. You get a brief passing mention of apartheid in high school. But to hear about it firsthand from Trevor Noah, who lived it..it's heartbreaking. Which is not even close to a strong enough word. And apartheid isn't even the only tough topic that he covers in this autobiography.
But Trevor's story also has some humor (he IS a comedian after all),that matter-of-fact humor from someone who lived a story. I won't lie that there's times I felt guilty for laughing (the demon story. I laughed SO much). It doesn't make his story any less poignant or true.
I'm going to pick up the YA version of this for my classroom library. Because it's a story everyone should read.

Amazing story - good read.
funny inspiring

If you do think your life was tough. ;>

Listening added a whole other dimension to the book - Trevor Noah is so adept at accents, and it made the story that much more interesting

However, many stories were repeated, almost verbatim. A better editor would have caught these repetitions.....
