Reflections on apartheid, racism, police state, domestic violence. Interesting, heart wrenching , thought-provoking. In awe of his mother.

Trevor Noah’s tales of growing up as a biracial child under apartheid alternate between comic and harrowing, tragic and triumphant. I learned quite a bit about what South Africa was like during the time and the systemic racism that continued to evolve even after apartheid ended. I enjoyed reading his account and find it quite remarkable- I do think, however, the narrative elements that really being a story to life were somewhat lacking, and because I had to keep picking this book up and putting it down due to my crazy life right now, the time jumps back and forth were confusing to me.

One of the best memoirs I’ve ever read

Really liked it. Entertaining, light and funny even when dealing with serious topics, and educational regarding apartheid.

This was a fascinating look into Trevor Noah's earlier life. I love him on the Daily Show and the stand-up comedy I've seen from him is also delightful. Having heard him speak about growing up in South Africa is mostly what prompted me to read this book. I really enjoyed his insights on language being something that can easily bring people together or keep them apart. I've said many times that language can be a weapon and he provides excellent examples that show exactly how language can be weaponized.
