This is my favorite book. Absolutely beautiful and leads you wanting to be a better person, a better friend. Read if you look forward to a good cry

A really powerful and moving book, almost to tears at some points. It was so upsetting and you find yourself wishing that they would be happy just for once. You can’t help but think how unlucky some people are in life, especially Hassan and Sohrab. A book that I will think about for a long time I’m sure.

I have mixed feelings about this book. I am so happy that a humanist narrative has emerged about the people of Afghanistan, and that the story touches on important themes of classism and racism. This book is so well-intentioned, and I love that. At the same time, it's flat. The characters are not believable. It's too clean and too simple. But I am glad people are reading and discussing it.
