Fairly enjoyable for a fellow Laura Ingalls Wilder enthusiast. I think I've seen some of the sites she mentions in Iowa and Spring Grove. Best line: "The fact that Nellie wasn't any one person but rather a composite of three of the real Laura's antagonists' worst traits makes her even more terrifying, some kind of blond Frankenstein assembled from assorted bitch parts."

This one made me nostalgic for the years where I read the Little House books and imagined myself as Laura. I remember loving them and wanting to know more about her life, so the fact that I could just read this and let the author do the exploring for me was really cool. It felt a little long at times but I loved the authors humor and her willingness to dive into anything that she found fascinating.

I loved the travelogue part of this book--the author traveled to all (lots of?) the places in the Little House books, explaining what they're like now, and she delves a bit into the current politics of Little House (I know, right?).

Well, that was interesting. Not overly fun, but a decent read. Someone who loves Laura? Check. Someone who has read the books a hundred times? Check. Someone who wants to uncover the history behind the books? Check. Sounds like me. She even churns butter.

I would be interested in taking the same trip, but now I don't necessarily feel I need to. Thanks, Wendy! If you love the Little House books, you will probably find this a decent read. 3 stars.

So endearing, funny, and so so much more thoughtful and emotional than I expected. Even without having being a super fan of the Laura Ingalls Wilder books, I am a super fan of this book!

Do you love
Little House on

OMG
When Wendy
ordered a butter

knew she was
as crazy as me!!

This book was fantastic. A must read for any grown-up Little House fans. I identified with so much of what Wendy was experiencing, even though are experiences are completely different. And it was funny. Her humor sneaks up on you. I found myself bark-laughing on several occasions, because something came out of left field but was so appropriate!
