Guys, you don't get it, she's not like other girls. In case that wasn't made abundantly clear.
The most unlikeable and irritating protagonist in any book I've ever read. I wonder if Alice Oseman intended for her to come across that way or if it was just a happy little accident.

Solitaire was a read I would have appreciated as a fellow depressed teenager, but one Prozac subscription later I fear I see my past reflected in Tori Spring and can’t help but think she’s a little… insufferable? That is mean to say. She’s just depressed. And Michael is just angry. But what Tori is bad at (hiding her emotions), Michael is good at, and each wishes they were more like the other (top five best romance tropes fr). Overall nice and easy 🧚

Not my favourite AO book, probably because it is very clearly written by a teenager about being a teenager, and as such it's not really talking to me. Which is fine. Also probably should have picked something a little tonally different this week, which, again, is on me.

i honestly really enjoyed this
you follow tori spring at her high school at higgs but something isn’t right. a group called Solitaire is pulling pranks on the actual school but things seem to be getting a little out of hands. between social relationships and taking care of herself and her brothers, will tori discover the truth behind this association?
getting into the story was extremely easy as alice osman’s writing is simple and efficient. there aren’t descriptions that go on forever, everything is straight to the point and very enjoyable. i recommend checking trigger warnings before reading the book as it is a little far from the heartstopper series, at least for the first ones
this book makes you think and i’m all for it
4/5

I wish someone actually addressed Tori's depression and did something about it.

This book is an excellent exploration into how being cynical and depressed can truly make you a raging dick to the people around you, whether you want to or not.
I was Tori, in high school. I felt seen by this book. And it also reminded me of how poorly I acted around people I cared about (and people I didn’t) at that time. Mental illness or not, it’s not okay. But it’s nice to reflect on how much I’ve changed.
Truthfully, it probably deserves a higher rating but it hit a little too close to home and I am nothing if not a subjective reviewer.

4.5! I loved this! I understand Tori and I’m so happy this was through her perspective. There were many quotes by her that I heavily related to and loved. I just love Alice Oseman´s writing and her characters, I feel like she always captures the way teenagers can think and act. This is a beautiful exploration of identity and figuring life out and about kids who are sad, empty and lost and are trying to how to fit into this world - and somehow finding that one platonic soulmate that will fill the gap.
Trigger warning for self harm and mentions of suicide for this one!!
The only reason it’s not the full five stars is because it took a while for me to really into it. I´m not sure why, maybe it took a while to get into the story or the characters - idk but overall I loved this.
“But books–they’re different. When you watch a film, you’re sort of an outsider looking in. With a book–you’re right there. You are inside. You are the main character.”
