I read this in 2022 and I really loved it but I didn’t remember much about it. I loved it again. Nathan and Katrina were so fun to read and I’m hoping to read more from these two authors soon!

Lackluster. It was interesting the first hundred or so pages, if predictable. And there were definitely some funny and endearing scenes between the two afterwards but otherwise it fell really flat.

Such a beautiful story of writers, Katrina and Nathan, two halves of a famous writing duo that had a falling out four years ago, right after they completed perhaps their most popular novel.
Ever since that summer, living together in close quarters at a beach house to write, Katrina and Nathan refuse to appear in public together despite their bestselling novel and their joint tremendous success. They haven't spoken since, denying the rumors of having had an affair by the media, in light of Nathan's divorce upon his return and the fact that their best selling book was about precisely that, an affair. Nathan and Katrina are the only people who know the truth of what happened to them, a truth that they revealed to no one.
They are persuaded (somewhat forced) to collaborate again and it's painful for them to bring those feelings and unresolved emotions to the surface again. While it's not easy to speak about them, pouring themselves into their writing comes naturally, sharing their deepest thoughts hidden behind the dialogue of their fictional characters. Both of them struggle being vulnerable with one another, and it's a problem they recognize in themselves.
This was written so beautifully. There was no smut, no dramatic miscommunication in the third act. It felt real, years of friendship and emotional vulnerability coming together into one finale, and I loved the love letter that was somewhat reminiscent of Captain Wentworth's love letter to Anne in Persuasion (but not as good, cause let's face it, nothing can top the letter from Persuasion).
I still can't decide if I like this or Beach Read by Emily Henry better. If I had any complaint at all, maybe it would be that this was slow at times. And looking back now that the post book completion high has passed, I would have liked to have a scene from Nathan's POV on how he brought up ending his marriage to his ex-wife and what her thoughts were of his alleged infidelity.
4.5/5 ⭐
