3.5 stars because the ending was so cute.
Not a super fan of the big rift in the relationship and the whole emotional cheating that happened on both sides, but the character development and writing was superb.

Book Review of The Roughest Draft by Emily Wibberly

Three years ago, Katrina Freeling and Nathan Van Huysen were literary stars with their co-written books climbing the bestsellers list! But one interview and some harsh words ended not just their partnership but also their friendship! They did not part on good terms and havent spoken since!

But now the final book is due! Will they be able to put the past behind them and finish the book?

I had a little trouble at first getting into this story. There isn't really any action and you really don't hear much about anything other than the two main characters! So that being said, the chemistry between Katrina and Nathan is great! The writing has that playful banter and runs high with the emotions but really his book needed that! Overall it was a nice, funny and at times quick and playful read! Happy reading everyone!

fucking hate writers (lie)

5 ⭐️ Not going to lie, I picked this up because it was compared a lot to Beach Read and I LOVED that book. However, aside from both being romance novels about authors, there isn’t much else that’s similar. This was darker and less of a “light” read — but holy shit, it was so good! The character development, the pacing, the nuance was all SPOT ON. I would even hesitate to classify it as a romance read — while the romance is an integral part of the story, the character arcs are really the drivers. Overall - so glad I picked this up!

both (actually all) of the characters were insufferable & so unlikeable. hated the writing bc it tried soo hard to be deep but it was just v cringy. romance was oke but this did not work for me

ik denk nu maanden nadat ik het heb gelezen hoe erg ik dit boek haatte dus als ik kon zou k t 0⭐️ geven

Ultimately I started this book last year and got through one chapter. It bored me, unfortunately. The characters weren’t very likable and not much actually happens. Typically I’d enjoy getting insight into both characters point of view but the more I learned about Nathan, the more unlikeable he became. Their chemistry was pretty absent, and I don’t even know if I’d personally consider this book a romance. There was not much happening, it played too safe into the grey area. It would almost be better if there were some scandal, there was more tension, but I personally did not enjoy reading about the writing process and their book taking up a majority of the plot (and this is coming from a writer.) maybe other people would enjoy this but I saw it being compared to book lovers which is why I read it and it did not come even close? There is so comparison unfortunately.

DNF at 64% for many reasons but mostly- to cheat on your fiancé out of spite because you’ve been given permission to do so, with a man you’ve been in love with for years is wack (more nuanced than that but it remains valid).

It was slow and felt like just because the characters were writers the author tried too hard to make the writing seem overly complex and philosophical.
