I really enjoyed this book - I like the protagonist and his sidekick a lot, and their backstory was as interesting as the main plot line. It was a very fast read and a good story that was well-paced, impressively so for a first novel. I'll definitely be looking for more IQ.

Really liked this one. I tried it a few months back and I didn't get hooked. A few people encouraged me to try again and really glad I did. Great hero, great story with excellent humor, and a very distinct voice. A very unique and fun take on the PI genre. The set-up for book #2 is terrific.

Good characters, with a fun and pulpy tone. Sort of a thinned-out Elmore Leonard fixated on Pac and Biggie.

This would make a good movie.

A great debut mystery - original, entertaining, good origin story along with the mystery. Looking forward to the next one.

*4.5 stars* - an homage to Sherlock Holmes that is still highly original. Excited to read the next book in the series.

It was ALL OVER THE PLACE! I understand that this is the author's 1st book because it definitely read like it...80% of the time it flowed. The descriptions of the black characters weren't genuine, which makes sense because the author is Japanese. They read as though he made it up based on his own prejudices, what he's seen and experienced as a non-black person. I wouldn't have read or bought the book series knowing this in advance but now I must read all. 5 books in this series. Hopefully the next 4 books are better.
