I've read many music memoirs. Some of them I liked a lot even though I'm not a huge fan of the author's music. And some of them, I didn't really care for despite being a fan of their music. I looked forward to this one because I've been a huge fan of Brandi's since her second album. Unfortunately, I was disappointed.

I really enjoyed the honesty and realness in this memoir. I’ve always been a Brandi fan and understanding her story gave greater depth to her lyrics and work. I’ve read/listened to other musician memoirs that include singing throughout the book. This book out did them all with 18 full songs. It was such a treat!
Edit: I am seeing a lot of reviews in which people say that they felt it was lacking depth or that Brandi did not share enough of her emotions. Admittedly, I did notice a difference from other memoirs (where maybe she seems to gloss over things rather than dig into the emotional aspect), BUT I’m okay with that. She is a real person having real experiences with real emotions. Just because she’s famous doesn’t mean that we have a right to know every part of her story. I applaud her for sharing any aspect of her story.
