“It’s amazes me how men can find women to do things like that for them.”

Big thanks to Penguin Random House Audio and Pamela Dorman Books for the ALC in exchange for an honest review!

I have been looking for a good thriller for so long and I finally found what I was looking for! Admittedly I didn’t like the first book I read by Shari Lapena, but after seeing so many great reviews for this, I grabbed the audio and I’m so glad I did.

This is an incredible domestic thriller that’s so layered and intricate. It hinges on Bryden’s disappearance, which leaves her husband Sam desperate for answers though he’s suspected by the police. As the story opens up and we meet more people connected to the disappearance, it’s clear that everyone is not only suspicious but hiding their own secrets.

The pace is quick, moving from different perspectives to sprinkle in subtle clues. Besides Jane, the detective, a lot of the characters come across as unlikeable or just so suspicious that it’s hard to determine who was involved with the disappearance. There are so many layers to the relationships of these characters and so much deception that it makes for such a great and compelling read. And I will say that the ending was excellent and so unexpected!

I would definitely recommend the audiobook, as January Lavoy narrates. She does an amazing job narrating for so many different characters, giving them unique voices to really pull you into the story. She captures the ranges of emotion in each character so effortlessly. It makes for such a great audiobook experience.

It's been a while since I've picked up a Shari Lapena book and some things just never change. She just gets better at writing these books.
I was obsessed with this one. It's cleverly written and I couldn't put it down. I thought I had it penned who the killer was and I was very wrong and the twist at the end.... just wow.

**Audiobook Review ** PRHA **
Shari Lapena has done it again with her latest domestic suspense thriller; she's serving up secrets like a dysfunctional family lasagna—layered and messy! If you're into thrillers where everyone seems to have something to hide, "She Didn’t See It Coming" is definitely a must-read. And don't sleep on the audiobook—it's an absolute gem.

Major props to January LaVoy for her narration! She breathes life into these flawed characters with such finesse that you can't help but get sucked into the drama. Her delivery amps up the tension. Once you hit play, you won't want to stop—it’s a binge-worthy ride!

The story kicks off when Bryden, a seemingly ordinary mom, mysteriously disappears, turning her condo building into a crime scene. Everyone looks guilty, and everyone has a secret to hide:
🔍 Bryden Frost – the center of the storm and our missing person.
🔍 Sam Frost – the grieving husband or the ultimate cold-blooded liar? Just wait until you see what’s in his suitcase.
🔍 Derek – our mysterious Tesla driver who’s got “affair” written all over him.
🔍 Lizzie – the sister with a flair for secrets and some seriously questionable choices.
🔍 Paige – the best friend who’s super protective and knows more than she lets on to the police.

That’s not even scratching the surface! With so many red herrings flying around, my head was spinning, and I was questioning everyone! Get ready for some twists that will keep you on the edge of your seat!

This was a fast paced and twisty thriller with a huge number of intertwining threads and I had no idea who the murderer was. Like the other Shari Lapena books I’ve read, it was really enjoyable but not my favourite of hers.

I did find the book a little slow in the middle - the beginning, up until Bryden goes missing is very quick and as I was reading I was expecting a flashback, or a big twist taking us off somewhere very different, but the bulk of the book is around the aftermath of the disappearance and the investigation.

That aside, great characters, great alibis and great twists!

Was it super groundbreaking? No. Is Shari capable of writing a domestic thriller without including several psychopaths? Also no. But was I entertained the entire time I was listening to this?? Yes.
