I love this book. I thought I would only use the second half of this book, since it is an incredible reference for read-alouds appropriate from newborn to high school children. I wasn't expecting the first half of the book to be so informative, inspirational, and insightful on how to get your children to love to read. I already have a list going of books to read, I have my Closed Captioning working so my youngest can be "read aloud" by any video or show we watch, and I understand why my kids go to an awesome school where SSR (sustained silent reading) and reading aloud even in fourth grade are encouraged and used daily. I recommend this for anyone with kids at home, and I already have three friends who will be borrowing my copy.

I will be going to http://www.trelease-on-reading.com/ for updated recommendations until I get my book back.

This is a solid resource for books to read-aloud and for books to grow on. To this day, one of our favourites is still Chewy Louise - though these days the dog kinda drives me batty.

3.5 ⭐️ This is certainly a great resource, with a tilt toward educators. I picked up an old edition at a used book store and would definitely recommend reading the most up to date edition. I thought this book offered a lot of useful advice on motivating and encouraging kids to read, but I found parts of it to be a bit idealistic and even condescending in tone at times. My preference for a book about fostering a love of reading in the lives of children would be Sarah MacKenzie’s The Read-Aloud Family. With all of that said, the book list in the back still earns a sure spot on my shelf.

Not sure who the author thinks the audience for this book is. Spent a bit too much time trying to convince me to read aloud to my children, when I clearly already want to do that, given that I am reading this book. The book list does look a little more selective than some, so I'm excited to pull some of these for my kids.

A must-read for all parents of children small and almost grown. This book is a social commentary on our educatino system, a loving tribute to the importance of parents, and a fantastic book-list for easy book finding for busy parents. This book will inspire you to improve literacy at home and beyond.

This book has ignited in me an even stronger passion for reading aloud to my kids and students. The way Jim Trelease presents the research and experience of the last 30 years is fascinating. Being someone who has experienced personally that value of sharing books as a child with my mom, as a mom with my children, and as a teacher with my students, I loved reading this book, and I'm so thankful for those people in my life who took the time to read to me.

I love everything about this book. I think every parent should be required to read this as least once after they have kids. The book focuses on the benefits of reading out loud to our children. There are so many! If you only do one thing for your child's education, read out loud to them. Reading this book will change your life, because you will understand how important doing so really is.
