this was really fun! ive been wanting to pick up gearbreakers for a while and finally got to listen to the audiobook. definitely worth all the great things ive been hearing. i really liked the development of eris and sona and thought the dynamics between all of the characters were interesting and engaging. i do wish that it was a little slower. i completely get that the fast pace is a generic feature, but i think i would have really resonated with all of the characters had we spent more time with them. regardless though, very fun and engaging read.

I'm trying to figure out how to explain/ rate my feelings about this like it was enjoyable but also like. Deeply reminiscent in its writing of teenage me's forum roleplaying days esp when it came to character interactions. Like not bad but also not good like movie theatre popcorn u know? Like kind of an indulgent treat but not necessarily an amazing one. Will probably read the sequel still.
I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Ending had me AGASP. Literally. Kept clicking forward in pages and there was no more! Crazy. Anyway it’s a queer YA story that I think is carried with solid YA sci fi. Don’t think I missed the Berserker reference! Some moments felt forced as a means to an end for the next plot point but overall A fun read that I think young queer readers would like. Half star for gay!
