a lot more actually informative and specific than i thought. there were actual exercises and science in each section. also the audio version has a whole extra 30 or so minutes of extra stuff which was a nice surprise! some cursed dan asmr, some soft lofi beats with some words of encouragement, and a q+a about the book/writing process

A really interesting, informative and entertaining read. Sure, none of it is particularly groundbreaking or advanced, but it’s perfect for people who don’t know a lot about psychology and/or don’t want to wade through tons of information to get to the main points. I like the way the book is organised, so that you can just flip to whatever section is suitable depending on where you are with your mental health in the moment. Dan’s narration is engaging and still somewhat lighthearted despite the subject matter, which I think provides a good balance - you don’t want to get depressed from reading a book that’s meant to help you with depression.  And I also love the fact that all the information has been fact-checked by an actual psychologist who specialises in mental health so you know it’s pretty reliable. I’m sure I’ll be employing several of these exercises in the future.

I felt like the advice that was given was pretty typical but the format of the book, switching between explanations and exercises, was very informative and digestible.
