A comprehensive, funny, easy-to-understand mental health guide. Dan Howell is a YouTuber that I started watching when I was 11 years old. I grew up with him, and he influenced who I am quite a lot. Hearing all of these encouraging, affirming, realistic words was exactly what I needed. I could hear the voice of one of my childhood heroes telling me they believed in me. This is a book that I will purchase a physical copy of, keep it handy, and always go back to it. Full of evidence-based strategies, this book is SO valuable. Not to mention the amazing humor. It was a perfect blend of serious, light, and practical! AMAZING

(I listened to the audio book version)

was this groundbreaking? no. did I already know most of the techniques that he talked about? yes
but the way he collected it all, the way he read it, was still incredibly enjoyable, and I do feel like I got a nice refresher on some of the things and got inspired to make some changes.
also, I'm biased because I just like dan very much

I have never enjoyed reading a self help book. Before today.

I will admit I picked this up solely because I love Dan’s wit and humor, which was perfectly mixed into his analogies and even factual information, but honestly? The advice in this book is amazing. It is all phrased in a way that doesn’t intend to shame you for failure or fault, just to cast hope and inspire.

Yes, you can do this maybe not recommended thing, so long as you’re aware of the consequences. Be realistic with youe goals, not idealistic. Your best is good enough.

This book had a lot of things I’ve heard over my 15+ year journey with mental health, but some of it was just given in a whole new perspective.

I definitely recommend this book to anyone on their own mental health journey.

This was a very accessible piece of literature that helps individuals navigate their mental health. It was a rather quick read for me, but I’ve been going through a difficult time lately, and I thought that this book could help me. Surely, given the fact that I have a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Daniel taught me about things I already knew… but his perspective was very valuable and gave me a very positive way of looking at not-so-positive things in life. ♥️

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Such an amazing nonfiction book! I am not a big fan of nonfiction, but the amount of advice and resources in this book are truly phenomenal. I have loved Daniel Howell for so long and when I found out he wrote a book I wanted to read it so bad!

I haven’t really read any self help/ mental health books and this was truly amazing! I loved the exercise and all the advice and quotes have been so helpful and left such an impact!!!

Favourite quotes:

“We all want to save people or relationships, but if the burden of being put on you isn’t fair. If you enable or excuse their behaviour for any reason, it can sometimes stop the other person from confronting what they need to deal with”

“You are never alone”

“If you live in line with your values, it means not just going what you think you should do, or what others expect of you, but what you truly want in a way that’s meaningful”
