It was OK--the kind of thing that might've made me swoon as a teenager (as it is older YA). I listened to the audiobook on Hoopla while gardening, otherwise I would've never picked it up. Characters a bit one-dimensional. Saying someone is unique over and over does not make them so. Jax's parts were weird in that they might've been all of three sentences before things jumped back to Sadie's point of view. And the actor narrating Jax's part was slooow. Totally didn't pair well with the female voice actor at all. Sadie's mom was absolutely lazy, like I don't know how that woman was still alive because she wouldn't even lift a finger for herself, much less anyone else. (And she was pregnant, too.) How she was able to even get in the car much less leave Tennessee and drive to Alabama I had no idea.

this was an easy read. it wasn't overly realistic but i still enjoyed it. i really liked the main character she was always doing stuff that was helping her and her mum and had a good work ethic. Even Jax wasn't a bad characters, i love seeing the "non rockstar" side but we didn't really get any of the reall good rockstars bits either. the romance was kinda shitty, the whole "shes not like other girls" and the whole blue eyes blond hair and doesn't know she drop dead gorgeous really annoys me and i wasn't a fan of the mini love triangle. but i really did enjoy this book it was fun, easy going and didn't take long to finish.

Cinderella meets Twilight. Not a bad read, but just too unrealistic.

If I could give this 2.5 stars I would for several reasons, the first being that the writing itself isn't stellar. The sentence structure didn't seem to flow very well at times which I found distracting. An example would be a character saying something like, "It is not" instead of "It isn't". This may not seem like a big deal but when it happens A LOT, it becomes irritating.

Secondly, the idea that Sadie and Jax spend so much time together yet his parents have no opinion on their relationship is unrealistic. His mother is supposed to be a controlling force in his life yet she disappears after she's introduced in the book.

Jax is your typical misjudged teen rock star who falls head over heels in love with Sadie, his family's hired help. Marcus, the other hired help and an all around nice guy is also in love with Sadie but of course, she only has eyes for Jax. Sadie comes from the "wrong side of the tracks" and has played the role of parent to her own for most of her young life and doesn't see how she could ever fit into Jax's. He finally convinces her to give it a try for the summer and everything is going great until it isn't. Hearts end up broken and lives in a mess but it all gets tied up nicely (sort of) by the end of the book. Actually, there are several holes in the storyline that bothered me but to mention them would be spoilery. (It irks me when people spoil stuff.)

Despite it's flaws, this story does have some positives, like how Jax and Marcus both show restraint where Sadie is concerned. The guys are legal adults and even if she acts mature for her age, Sadie's still a minor. Speaking of Sadie, she is a strong female character who is still willing to make good choices and put others before herself regardless of the example that's been set for her.

If you're looking for a quick read that's got a little bit of heart and a whole lot of lovesick puppyness going on then this is one you'll want to read. If that kind of thing annoys you, then you might wanna skip this one.

I'm torn with what to rate this. I read the original paperback release first and it was amazing! Its one of my fav books now and was left with a book hangover for several days. Then I got really excited when I discovered that the rerelease has Jax's pov too. So I thought, YES, an inside look at what he felt and went through. And maybe even an extra scene or two.

So I bought the ebook and immediately started reading it. And I was completely disappointed! Jax's pov scenes are very short and don't really add much to the story. On top of that, the steamier scenes, are too adult to be considered YA and don't fit right! It's like the author thought "well, the fans want steamier scenes, so lets throw in sex randomly." Don't get me wrong, the scenes were hot and well written, but they just didn't fit in right with the story and the characters.

Now for the two things that really upset me. I assumed that we would get Jax's pov during a crucial point in the book. I really wanted to know how that had affected him and what he went through when he got that call. But no, we got nothing from him during that time. I really feel like I could have truly seen how much he loves Sadie and get to know exactly how much she means to him during that scene. I wanted something from him. But instead got nothing except what he tells Sadie afterwards.

The other thing that upset me a little is that I was really hoping for an extra chapter. A look into their future. Didn't have to be anything big like marriage but something to let the readers know that hey, they are still together and happy. Maybe her graduation and getting to go off and be with Jax in LA. Something, anything!

It wouldn't have hurt to know that her mother turned her life around and was actually being a mother to Sam too. I'd hate for him to go through the same thing Sadie went through.

Anyways.

Overall, I really enjoyed the story. I just personally like the original version better. Maybe I'd have liked this one just as much if I hadn't have read the original first.

Sometimes you really shouldn't mess with perfection ;)

I give the rerelease 3.5 stars so I will round it up to 4 stars and I give the original paperback release 5 stars!

Book #50 Read in 2014
Breathe by Abbi Glines (YA)

This is the first book in a young adult "smut" series, for lack of a better term. It reminded me of a 50 Shades of Gray for teenagers....but a bit naughtier than what I remember reading as a teen. Sadie gets a summer job as a maid for a rich family; the owner turns out to be young rock star Jaz. The two connect instantly and begin a relationship while trying to maintain privacy. Of course they are found out and their cover is blown. This book was a quick read and the characters were interesting but about halfway through it could have wrapped up for me. But I stuck with it so I could see that happy ever after in the end.

Three and a half stars. I guess if I started with this book instead of just for now, I don't think I would have been interested in the series.
