This book is a clever twist on the supernatural with steam punk flair and hilarious Victorian Era etiquette. It's deliciously romantic in all the right ways, with strong and independent female characters and charming male characters, even breaking just a tad on heteronormativity. How refreshing!

I found this book just absolutely delightful, and loved every minute of it!
Etiquette and Espionage was such a fantastic beginning to a series! Sophronia is the coolest and her friend Dimity is the sweetest. I'm such a fan!
This was really good fun. I enjoyed this immensely.
Listened to the audiobook. Engaging, fast paced. Characters believable, if a little flat.
Having already read both her Parasol Protectorate and Custard Protocol (just picked up book 4 from the library) series, I didn't need an intro to this world or to get used to her writing, but I will admit that I got through this one faster than any of the books from the other series. I've found that Gail Carriger's steampunk is just way goofier than some other I've read and honestly, I like that it makes me giggle! I mean who else would name their mechanimal sausage dog, Bumbersnoot?
I liked the world building in this one and most of the characters (some we know from later in time with the Parasol Protectorate), but felt like the end was a bit rushed. As of now (2022) there are at least 7 books in this series so I'm sure that Sophronia, Dimity, Vieve, Soap & Bumbersnoot will get up to all kinds of shenanigan's in the other books.

3.5 I took me almost 3/4s of the book to finally get into it. The ending was good so I will move on to the next book in hopes it progresses faster than the first.

I found this YA companion series to the Parasol Protectorate to be instantly likeable and great fun.
