It's been a while since I've been able to read a whole book in a single sitting and I'd thought I lost the ability. Apparently I needed something familiar enough but not too much.
It's a fun story of espionage, steampunk, and the wonderful world Carriger has created. A few familiar faces from The Parasol Protectorate, if you've read that already.

I really enjoyed this story and the hijinks that the young teens got into. I listened to this book as an audio book and was glad I did. While I enjoy gail's stories her writing is very hard for me to get into. The woman who does the audio was amazing and made me feel like I was with them at school.
C.S. Lewis said that, “A children's story that can only be enjoyed by children is not a good children's story in the slightest.” and the same is true for YA. Gail Carriger approaches her YA as an adult book and successfully writes some compelling, interesting, and dynamic young characters. Perfectly executed.
UPDATE: FINISHED, finally... took a long break but re-read the whole thing. Loved it. ^_^

I got this because of a review I saw on youtube, and thank God I did!
I really like it, I have been disappointed with YA recently, but this is such a good idea, can't wait to read her adult series!
The whole finessing school setting is just so interesting, and I just couldn't help but make myself some tea every time i was about to start the next chapter.
Did I say I loved the pacing? Yeah, I love it, there is always something happening, which made putting the book down to do little things like sleeping very difficult, but who needs it right?
Also, I really appreciate that I don't want to scream at Sophronia at every turn, she wasn't frustrating at all.
The plot also evolved in such a natural way, Carriger made me believe in stuff that otherwise I would just laugh and snort at. Flying school? Evil genius?
Yes please.
The story is witty and charming, will be waiting, not so patiently, for the next one. Meanwhile it made me really think I'm missing on the steampunk thing, since I never gave a second thought before. Now I got to get me some more.
Oh, well. At least I have the whole adult series to go though. :)

I liked this book! It was a bit juvenile at times but it was a fun, light book! Will definitely read more in this series!
The main character is absurdly bold and good at everything, which isn't very relatable to me. I liked the other series I read from this author much more, as it featured an older character. However, I liked how the characters made friends and how silly a lot of it was. I don't think I will continue this series. The other series I read from this author I enjoyed much more.
If you delight in a bit of steampunky girl fun, then new student Sophronia's misadventures at Mademoiselle Geraldine's Finishing Academy for Young Ladies of Quality will definitely suit. Sophronia is fourteen, and just not all that interested in keeping a clean hanky on her person - she'd rather tear apart a bit of machinery or dirty her hands, and that simply won't do. So her mother sends her off to a most unorthodox finishing school, where the girls learn how to turn their feminine wiles into intelligence-gathering, mechanical servants contrive to prevent dashing adventures, and the students dream fondly of the day they are able to poison their first husbands! Of course Sophronia is not able to simply apply herself to her studies. An unpleasant encounter with a group of flywaymen (highwaymen who use dirigibles, of course) on the way to school leads to an alliance between Sophronia & Dimity, both new students, and a suspicion that failing student Monique is not what she seems - a missing communications prototype is linked to Monique, and the twosome persist in discovering the snooty older girl's secret.
Filled with delightful puns and funny, light details about life in an alternate Victorian England filled with fascinating devices and mysterious alliances, you can recommend this book to fans of similar books like Fever Crumb, Sorcery & Cecelia, or A College of Magics. Fans of the Parasol Protectorate series (Carriger's books for adult readers) will like this as an expansion of that world.

Kouzelné! Velmi dobré 4 hvězdičky, a moc se těším na pokračování... Snad bych ho rozečetla hned, kdybych ho měla, což je u mě trochu neobvyklé... :)
