Storyline is good, characters as well. DNF though, may pick it up again later

Cute. I enjoyed it. I read it because we were trying to figure out whether or not to keep the series as some have been circulated, others not. One clear problem was that it was shelved under adventure. More of a fantasy book imo.

Thoroughly enjoyed. Set in 1800s England, but with a slight twist (werewolves, vampires, supernaturals, etc.). Reminded me a little of Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next series.

I've been looking forward to reading this one for a while. In the end, I had a lot of fun with it but I didn't love it as much as the Parasol Protectorate series.

I like Sophronia quite well, and it is a GREAT deal of fun seeing characters we already know, like the Lefouxs and Sidheag Maccon. (It's SHEE-ag. SHEE-ag!) The names, as usual, are fun but sometimes a little distracting because I keep having to think about how they are pronounced as I'm reading.

My only other issue is that I didn't feel like we got to see much of the lessons. We were told frequently about the various things Sophronia was being taught, but didn't actually see her learn many of them.

This one seems just a tad more hokily steampunk than the Parasol Protectorate series, if only because there are LITERALLY people GLUING COGS TO THEIR CLOTHING and wearing goggles around. Ugh.

The worldbuilding is fun but leaves me with some big questions. I keep wondering what is going to happen with the mechanical butlers/maids etc., because they are not present in the other series, 30 years later. Will someone use them for nefarious purposes, causing them to be outlawed entirely? Will they be considered too dangerous? Or do they just fall out of vogue?

I'm certainly going to continue on to book two, and I'm looking forward to it.
