I generally prefer character driven sci-fi not military driven plot - but this was pretty good regardless. It was fast paced and entertaining. I feel like there is a gaping plot hole that you have to overlook for the story to be believable though - the fact that the current Alliance military seems to have lost their way in just 100 years. They don't salute, they only vaguely think they have to follow orders and "formation fighting" isn't used because everyone that knows how to do it has died. Completely unrealistic - there aren't any computer records about it? no video training programs? no one left alive that could figure it out? REALLY? That was really my only complaint.

Lots of military. Lots of Battlestar Galactica. Fairly interesting until you get sick of how in each battle, someone disobeys orders and a ship is lost, but overall the strategy was, yet again, brilliant.
A good kick off to the series and one that definitely has me hooked on the series...enough to drill into the follow-up books.
slow-paced
I don't think this series is for me, I was hoping for more character growth and power struggles and everything just...was too clean/easy. MC just too perfect at maneuvering things that his self doubt got really annoying
Rather flat and dull with a lot of clunky unrealistic dialogue. Meh.

I have already read this book more than once (Can you tell that it is one my favorite Military Sci-Fi?), However the audiobook was so good, the narrator's voice so rich and expressive than it only made the experience even better than I thought it would be.

This book was space travel-y, yes, but more military than exploration. I usually don't care for military novels. Then why did I like this book so much? It's well written and interesting enough to keep you turning pages.
