Entertaining for sure but I just cannot get past the patent racism and Caucasian superiority complex throughout the story. I understand that this was written 100+ years ago and people had different ideas then but it was maddening to try and read this objectively. Made for a great book club discussion though!

I thoroughly enjoyed it and it made me remember why I love fantasy and adventure stories. However, the references to “the blacks”, “negress”, and other racial references have not born the test of time and made me uncomfortable. It reflects the culture of 1912. Other aspects are still wonderful, but be warned. That’s why I couldn’t give this book 5 stars.

This book was so good but the ending has made me salty.

I really enjoyed this pulp fiction. I was disappointed that the next story in the collection I got wasn’t the next one in the series, especially since there were some unresolved issues in the end of the book. But this has definitely made my ever-lengthening list of book series I need to continue reading when I actually get the time.
From a literary aspect, there is no greater example of the noble savage than Tarzan. Despite having no memory of his human parents, Tarzan manages to avoid many taboos in the realm of humanity. He stands for morality and gentlemanly aspects simply as part of his nature.

Also, it seems readers of pulp fiction in the early years of the 20th century had a much better vocabulary than many people today. There are a lot of big words in “Tarzan.”

Entertaining and adventurous.
I assume that it was much more enthralling at the time of publication, even though by then the "unknown African jungles" were not really that unknown.
The descriptions regarding the ape tribe are much more interesting than the descriptions about the human tribes and their ways.
