I mean... It's racist but it's also a good adventure yarn? So racist though.

Was it politically correct? No.
Was it unrealistic? Yes.
Was it a tad predictable at times? Absolutely.
Was the love story kind of crazy and sudden? Yup.

And I loved every moment. This book made me laugh (probably not intended by the author), and the writing kept me completely hooked! Even if Tarzan’s muscles were mentioned waaaaaay too much. And the ending left me shouting “WHAAAAAATTT?!?!” literally out loud. So, this is probably the pulpiest of pulp fiction. But you really should read it.

I had toyed with the idea to read Tarzan. Finally, being mostly confined to the house during the covid 19 epidemic, it seemed like a way to pass time. This book is entertaining and just a fun read.
For today’s pc environment, some may try to find offense with racial and social designations. That would be unnecessary. The fact is, Tarzan is constantly referred to as the ape man, himself identifying with beasts and the laws of the jungle, when the reader first meets him. Tarzan does not even realize he is a human and later believes he is half human half ape.
Reading of Tarzan’s physical feats and intellectual hunger and growth conjures images of this uncivilized being transforming himself without realizing it. Then, he experiences attraction, as he as never been around his kind, previously.
Enter: Jane.
The ending is satisfying but leaves the reader for the next novel in the series.
Recommendation? Do not consider reading Tarzan as beneath you. If you do so, you miss out on an adventure! Share it with the kids, friends, or just alone. Relax, Enjoy.

The story is ok. Good action. No real plot twists you hadn't already heard.

Better versions of this story are already out (Lord Tyger, The unofficial biography by Phillip Jose Farmer, etc...).

I mean, it's Tarzan...

Wow. I took this up viz. my interest in sasquatch but damn. I didn’t know it would inform my historical interest in eugenics too!

Properly, unequivocally, irrefutably racist trash. Its plot devices are almost as offensive. Good fun for some of it and a few valuable turns of phrase for a novelist to filch.

Amazing writing, even with some predictability, clear evidence of prejudicial attitudes of the times....., I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Read it for book club!
