Catching up with my bad reviews and adjusting old ratings.

Kate Stewart (MF author) is on my Permanent Do Not Read shelf for multiple issues.

The author has a well-documented history of: ableism (window licker, helmet special,  special bus driver), Hitler jokes and fingerstache, ICE jokes, racial slurs, bad rep of latinas, having a white woman dress up as Madea (a black woman) and do an exaggerated blaccent, fetishizing gay men (Reverse), slut-shaming, and internalized misogyny.

If you are looking for a book that is different from all of the others...

THIS.IS.THE.ONE!!

I've never read anything like this. It's a gritty read. Like watching one of those movies where you are trying to figure out what's really going on. I could totally visualize watching this on the big screen as I was reading it.

It is evident that a lot of preparation went into writing this story and nailed it.

It a story about love, devotion, loss, grief and missed opportunities. A reminder that you never know what life will bring you tomorrow.

Lucas is brilliant. The lengths that he goes to make his move roles authentic are mind-blowing. It gave me a new appreciation for actors. And often, we don't think about the upheaval this can bring to their family and friends. Mila is a total fierce woman. In awe of her strength and ability to forgive.

The story moves seamlessly through the far past, the near past and the present. I've read some stories where it gets messy to be able to keep up with what is going on, but this one was perfection.

I fell in love with Kate's stories with The Real. I continue to fall in love with her stories even more with Method. The bright lights of Hollywood take a toll on the artists that are blinded by it.

This story is raw and gritty, it's also sadness and love. Love above all else, and in many different forms, from love of a spouse to love between friends, both beautiful in their own ways. I enjoyed the flow of this story, the flashbacks to current time, was seamless and really brought the story home for me.

This is Lucas and Mila's story, but it's about so much more. I loved Lucas' nickname for Mila and the story behind it.  Their love story is chaotic and flawed but it's absolutely flawless in it's honesty.

The struggles that Mila and Lucas go through are heart wrenching and made me cry.  It also gave me tears of happiness and joy. You are going to catch all the feels in this story!

Lucas is the consummate actor and artist.  He is brilliant in his craft but it comes with a price and this story shows the cost to those who choose to love him.

I loved Lucas' nickname for Mila and the story behind it.

I was so moved by this story! Kate has a magic to her words that draws the reader into the story and really empathize with her characters.  Bravo Ms. Stewart, I tip my blogger hat to you! This story is going to be in the running for my "Best Reads of 2019"!!

4 1/2 ⭐️’s

“What’s left of the man on my porch is the evidence of a job well done and the cause of our demise.”

Told from dual POV.
Lucas (A-list Hollywood actor) and Mila (sommelier) have been married for 6 years and as the story opens you clearly know their marriage is in trouble.

First impression of Lucas & Mila: I'm devastated for them and I don't even know what's going on. I was sucked in immediately and I FELT their pain.

Trigger: suicide

Stop right now if you don’t want to read information about how the trigger impacts this story.........

If suicide is a trigger for you, this book may be very difficult to read. The story opens with the main character (Lucas) having to deal with the suicide of his best friend Blake. From that point on, this subject is a focal point of the book and the catalyst for Lucas’ behavior. The loss of his friend consumes Lucas and he grapples with the “why” that can never truly be answered, the guilt of wondering if he could have done something to prevent this and the complete devastation that comes from tragically losing someone you love. For someone that has walked in these shoes in real life, the emotions may hit too close to home and you can expect your heart to crack open and bleed due to grief.

The story flips between present, a few months ago and things that happened years ago. I didn’t have a problem flipping between the past and the present, but during the middle of the book I felt like there was just too much “past” and the intensity of the present situation got lost. Therefore I felt the book lost a little bit of its flow and intensity during the middle section and this is primarily the reason I knocked off a 1/2 star.

Once the twist is unveiled (which I didn’t see coming at all) the intensity picks back up and continues through the end of the book. Lucas’ pain is palpable and seeps off the pages. My heart literally broke for him as I understood his quest for answers and a desire to just immerse himself in the lost. The reader doesn’t know Blake in the beginning, but through flashbacks he becomes one of the main characters of the book and by the end of the story I felt like I lost my best friend too. My heart hurt 💔 😭

Life alters when tragedy strikes, but you learn to embrace the precious memories and hold them close to your heart all while finding a new “normal.” Lucas & Mila’s marriage was tested to the very core and in the end they found that you have to be willing to accept who you are, be courageous enough to voice your fears and trust that the person by your side will be your greatest strength in the darkest times. The journey was difficult, but I’m so very glad I was able to walk along side these wonderful characters.

5 Oscar Worthy CROWNS

Wow! Just wow! One of the things that I love about Kate Stewart is that her stories are never the same, in tone, in trope, in plot line. Each one is unique, and when she taps into the drama side of her romance, I’m left with marks in my heart (in the best way possible).

This is more than a romance, and you know that is my favorite type of book. She tackles so many issues: mental health, sexual abuse and more. We get the romance, the love and the heartbreak, but this story also gives us more. It provides awareness, it provides hopes it just gives more.

The narrators did an amazing job bringing this book to life. My heart physically ached in my chest during some of these scenes.

A sign of an amazing must read book for me is that my heart feels a little bit bruised, the good ache of a story and characters you will miss. You feel a bit altered by the words of another, and Method made me feel all this and more.

Wow. To date, I have never had a book that has made me cry and I must admit I was close in this one. This was a hard read, so much emotion and angst. It had ALL the feels and I loved it! Grief is hard, and we all deal with it so differently and I loved how raw the author made this. Love and life is messy, and this is what I want to read. I don't want love to feel easy and unattainable because it feels so unrealistic. But I also love the fact that the relationships are just so potent that you can't help feel a part of it. It really is well done, and and I think I am now officially hooked on the authors work.

Wow. I had never thought much about method acting, about the terrifying impacts it can have on the actor and their family. Lucas and Mila’s story was intense. I don’t think I’ve ever devoured a 400 page book in a couple days like this one. Lots of flash backs and flash forwards can make the timeline a bit confusing if you don’t like that sort of thing, but it worked for this book. What a great story teller. Need to check out other titles by this author as it was my first. And just so happened to be a signed copy!

I’ve never wanted to read ahead to the last chapter so badly before but I found myself wanting to make sure Mila & Lucas would be ok. My heart was breaking with them

Kate Stewart wows in this emotional Hollywood tale of love and loss.

Lucas’s passion for both his art and for Mila is intoxicating. I’ve always found talent to be incredibly sexy, and Lucas is an A-list movie star known for giving his entire self over to his craft. I don’t think any woman could resist being the intense focus of his attention and affection. He is a genuinely good man. His complicated relationship with his best friend adds another intriguing dimension.

Mila is a shining star in the story. She straddles the line between losing herself in the man she loves and being a supportive wife. There are so many facets to her personality. She’s charming, intelligent, and just a little bit wild.

The erratic time jumps were problematic for me. The story frequently bounces between present day, a few weeks ago, a few months ago, 6 years ago, and even a decade or more in the past. The flashbacks are not linear or predictable, and they left me feeling disoriented at times. I also found the various turns toward the end to be too untidy.

There is no doubting the originality of the plot or the appeal of the complex characters, though. The story is enticing and edgy with just the right amount of mystery. I absolutely fell in love with Lucas’s and Mila’s love affair.
