Kate Stewart is that author that nails it very time! She is a master storyteller and although I didn't think she could top herself after Drive and the co-authored book Heartbreak Warfare, but she has done it. The minute I heard about it it became a most anticipated and quickly turned into one of my top 10 reads of all time. The premise is original and the execution is outstanding to say the least. It's gritty and sexy, heartwarming and heartbreaking, and a story that demands a re-read.
Lucas and Mila have one of those rare love stories. As Hollywood couples go, they have experienced many of the ups and downs of all the entrapment's that come with his work, but their devotion to each other has never really been questioned. The story is shared in both past and present moments and while not always perfect, they are resilient to outside forces.
"Most would consider our relationship a bit co-dependent, and they would be exactly [bleeep] right. We don’t do much of anything without the other. We don’t need space to be individuals, because we’re the better version of ourselves when we’re together, at least I am." ~ Mila
But Lucas experiences a great loss and he deals with grief in a most unique way, one that starts to pull on the frayed threads of their marriage. With Lucas in a new role, the most challenging role to date, it doesn't take long for everything to go sideways. Lucas is certainly not himself and it seems so ingrained in the part that the line between their reality and the persona he's taken on melds a bit too much. I was so nervous throughout the entire read, waiting for the moment where Mila comes to understand just what she, what they, are up against. I had to read and re-read a few key moments just to absorb the twists. As she works her way through just what's going on she became one of my top heroines.
There's good reason as to why all her books turn into award winners and top sellers. Congrats to Kate Stewart on another top selling, 5++ star and #MustRead story.

I love Hollywood romance stories, but let me tell you this book is in another league, I found an incredible story, with deep and great developed characters and a writing that grabbed me and didn't let me go. I got all the emotions rolled into one book and all I can say is wow and give the author an applause for it all. It's a beautiful masterpiece that squeezed my heart, made me stop for a minute to solved my emotions and continue reading. Kate is a new author to me and one I will now follow close and will be reading more of her books for sure. You blow me away a standing ovation for you my dear. On my top 2019 must read favorite list!

Review: Read #2 of this beautiful book & it was just as good as the first time ❤️ This story is so unique & I’ve never read anything quite like it. It’s moody, dark, REAL and unexpected.
We get to watch the beginning & downfall of Lucas & Mila at the same time & it’s such a beautiful, heartbreaking journey. So many touching themes throughout the book and it gives such a realistic view of Hollywood (the place & the man).
The spice spices & it’s so hot 🥵 Sex is a big part of their story and is portrayed in the perfect way each time. It’s hard to explain what I mean without spoiling anything. Just know.. it’s hot (& emotional at times, too)!
Do me a favor & go read this! You won’t regret it..promise 😉

Having been an actress and taken on roles that were well out of my comfort zone on the stage, I was dying to read this story. I was not disappointed at all. This story is unlike anything I have ever read. The storyline is intriguing and the writing is beautiful and is seamless in transitioning from past to present. It had me on the edge of my seat wanting to know more.
These characters were so complex and well developed and to be able to write a character that is jumping into the role of a different character is amazing.
I could not put this book down. This book is in my top reads of this year. I can't wait to read more from Kate. I will be first in line for whatever she decides to write next.

This author is one of a select few that I stop everything to read her book within days of it being released. There is something about how she can weave a story with characters that are mind-boggling complex. They are perfection juxtaposed with flawed. She shows the duality of redemption and damnation. Even as flawless that these characters are or the story is that she writes, it is in the imperfections that the story shines. There was so much that I loved about this story. Mila and Lucas were stunning and totally devoted to their love. A love, mind you, that was sublime in a world where illusions were key. Was their marriage perfect? No. Yet, their devotion and connection are. They proved that love needs to be cultivated and nourished.
I struggled with parts of this book because I truly had a hard time following what was going on. especially about the secret and why Blake did what he did. I wanted more of the story told from the present and what had led them to the now. The continual flashbacks of their relationship were good to a certain point but it got excessive in my opinion. Yes, they were important to showing how Mila and Lucas fell in love but I am still unclear in certain parts about how they applied to the "secret" and why Lucas felt compelled to use that in his "method" of acting.
Was this my favorite book by this author? No. Not even close. However, it still was beautifully crafted in a way that is only done by this amazing author. The way that she phrases certain ways in order to paint a picture always take my breath away. Would I recommend this book? Yes, only because of the sheer beauty in which this author writes is pure magic. Would it be the first book I recommended for a new person just getting started on works by this author? No. I would start them on another book but I WOULD make sure that they did eventually read this book because once they have read the first book then they would be a fan. And as any fan knows, once you read one you have to read them all.
