I'll give it a 3.5, but it was a rough 3.5. I felt dissatisfied with the conclusion and just kind of feel sad after finishing. I did enjoy the setup of the creepy house. But, I will say I was a little lost with some of the environment building because I've never been to Australia. The writing was good and I loved the little news excerpts throughout.

I found this books synopsis to be its most thrilling prose… great read for a long flight perhaps. You may not pick it up again

I’ve been in a slump all year and normally I read 40 books a year and this is only my third. Matlins work is excellent and riveting. Once I started I couldn’t stop!
"Come alone."
Two words that will send shivers down your spine! And that's what author Lisa M. Matlin does over and over again in this debut novel set in a murder house.
Murder House. Not the paranormal happenings like the Amityville Horror, but real actual murders. Sarah is crazy enough to purchase the house with her husband Joe. She thinks they can flip it and make a tidy profit. The neighbors hate her. And she thinks they're out to get her.
I love where this story went, especially because in my mind it was going somewhere completely different! I would have stopped before the epilogue because I think the story was complete in the final chapter. The author's notes are definitely worth reading!
Thanks to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine for an advance reader's copy.

Honestly, I got bored, misplaced it months ago, and don’t feel the need to resume or restart if I find it.
A decent read for a debut author. The FMC was pretty dislikable (a lying, POS, social media influencer) but that doesn’t deter from the story. A solid read for spooky season because it leaves the reader questioning what happened.
