I had heard García Márquez is difficult to read so I started with this very short one. I found it really interesting and philosophical and loved it. Through the story, García Márquez makes a powerful commentary on society and community, and the instinct to turn the other way rather than help each other.

It took me some time to gather my thoughts about this book. This is the first book I've read by Márquez and I have been told a lot of times about his genius, and I can see it. His words flow over the page like water, it's incredible how well he tells stories and slowly opens up more information about characters. However, I struggled to keep up with all the different information in the book and I think that's more down to me than the story itself.
Read this book with my senior english class. I didn't like this book. Too explicit for my taste.

read for class but rlly loved it!!! wish it was longer actually. might read more garcia marquez for that latin magical realism. would be a good movie. maybe a really good audiobook? love the drama
