i enjoyed the investigative narration of events through the statements from witnesses. this book highlighted the paralysis of the bystander effect and how even if you know something bad is approaching, you sometimes get so lost in your own life that you don’t do anything.

it was a little confusing keeping track of all the names, but i enjoyed how it was retold in order.

ggm is fantastic at painting a picture, i would re-read this again just to relive the scenery. overall an enjoyable read.

4.5 stars. This was like reading a true crime podcast. Fascinating, sure to leave you with some unanswered questions. For a book that reveals the victim and the murderers very early on, it does a great job keeping the reader interested. Besides, look no further than the quote below to see how amazing the prose is:

"She only took the time necessary to say the name. She looked for it in the shadows, she found it at first sight among the many, many easily confused names from this world and the other, and she nailed it to the wall with her well-aimed dart, like a butterfly with no will whose sentence has always been written.
'Santiago Nasar,' she said."

This book was very intriguing. I think it’s one that gets better with each reread. I found it difficult to follow who was being referred to and just generally track the names of everybody. I thought the plot was very engaging and an interesting perspective but I wish there was answers to some of the hanging questions.
