Jose’s memoir highlights how demoralizing the immigration agenda really is. His story is one of determination, strength and hard work. I like how he opens up about the guilt of having to commit fraud in order to work and get his drivers license. He’s human. He did what anyone would do and I think he is brave. He does a great job at describing living life in survival mode. Perspective really is so important. I am grateful Jose took the time to pour his soul out to us about all of his challenges trying to find himself. He has inspired me to learn more about how deep discrimination is embedded into this broken system. I highly recommend reading his story.

There was not much surprisingly new in this book for me, but for some people there might. Either way it is definitely a great read. This is a book that should be read in schools, which is currently less likely than ever. What I personally got out of this book was the particular experience of immigrating from the Philippines. I also adored Jose for the brave decisions he decided to make. The journalistic skills and experience of the author definitely showed, which is a plus for a nonfiction book about such a topic.
