eek more so a 2.75 for me… did not love… i had such high hopes because the basic plot line is super cute and i love the idea!! everything just fell flat for me… we had a lot going on allllll the time, which made it hard for me to really connect to any one (or more) character. everyone just kinda frustrated me? hahah! we just experience every possible life event — illness, adoption, found family, financial problems, gambling, trauma, addiction, etc. and nobody handled their life event well? if at all? and the end barely wrapped things up.

overall, the writing felt choppy and a bit short in my opinion. the slang and events are very current which helped it be more relatable to a current reader, but it did not read well or add anything to the story. if anything it made it harder to grasp.

Sweet story of African American besties and their journey toward supporting each other as they open a bookstore. The ending resolution feels a bit too tidy and unrealistic.
