this is my second time reading this book and i’m sticking with a 4 stars.

this book is so easy and nice to read, i like how
even though they technically get together early they aren’t really together until much later.
i don’t love chapter
29-33 but that’s just because i hate that books have to have conflict at the end. i just want everyone to be happy and no miscommunication or anything that causes a break/breakup.
but i guess you to have it or whatever.

can’t wait to read lucy’s book again, i remember really liking that one!

Jason unwillingly broke Olive's heart when they were children, but now that he's acting in the movie of her romance novel, the two can't help but rekindle their friendship. However, Jason's fame got to his head, and now the press is not looking kindly at him. He needs Olive's help to stage a fake relationship to shows he has changed. But not everyone is happy about them being together, and people willing to see them fall apart are even in their group of friends.

I loved how wholesome the characters of Jason and Olive were. They weren't perfect, but they owned up to their mistakes and tried to make things work for them.

I’m furious with myself. Mostly because it’s 2023 and I haven’t yet learned to DNF a book when I’m hating it. And because I should have also learned my lesson with the first Ella Maise book I read - Marriage for One which was also horrendous. I should only blame myself… however I do blame those deceptive TikToks and their comment sections that made the books seem stellar.

I started it on Audible and while I absolutely love Sebastian York and he can do no wrong, the female narrator sounded like her mouth was overflowing with spit and she was unbearable.

So I moved over to Kindle. How did it get worse than I thought possible? The fmc was shockingly written. It was giving major pick me, pathetic, whiny, grotesquely childlike and then sexualising someone who behaves like a child???? I wanted to scream at her to stand up but also wanted to tell her to sit down in a deep grave and fill the grave with every copy of this book so no one would have to read it again.

This book gave NOTHING. Literally nothing at all. So much of nothing that it was painful to get through this and with my inability to DNF a book I ended up taking WEEKS to finish this and was unable to read anything else in the meantime because of it and gave me a shit reading month for February and March. Thanks for this. Ruined my ‘oliday.

I found this book good but it felt like hundreds of romances I’ve read before. My best friends brother is also not one of my favorite romance tropes so I should have gone into this knowing that but I still wasn’t a huge fan.

Not to put down the romance because the romance was good, like really good. It was sweet and you were rooting for the characters the whole time. But I still don’t like that the main character is like the one that has been in love with him this whole time and he didn’t know? Come on

I did like the side characters like Lucy and Marcus( I know I know). Lucy was actually one of my favorite characters and I hope to see more of her in this series.

So much of this didn’t sit right with me.
The scene where she’s drunk and forces herself on the MMC
The crush she had on him as a small child still dominating her emotional and sexual priorities. The sex scenes were cringey and the characters didn’t develop - just a really stagnant story considering all that happens in it. The roommate drama was predictable
except the mmc being drugged
I’ve loved other books by this author and normally like the tropes this one has - it just wasn’t for me
