3.5⭐️ I genuinely enjoyed this book. For once, I actually enjoyed the romance in a romantasy. The vibes were vibing, and there were two plot twists I absolutely did not see coming. I’m hoping we get some more character backstories and details on the blood magic system in the next one. I wish there was a bit more world building and true fantasy. But, overall, I am excited to start the next one.

Holy fuckin SHIT!!!!!! That was SO. GOOD. World building was gripping & a different type of lore I have yet to read kept me glued to my kindle for 4 days straight. HUGE grouping of twists at the end that I did not see coming at all. Cliffhanger has me downloading book 2 right away..

Enemies to lovers was enemy-ing so hard I had no idea how it'd turn around. SLOW burn

Wow. Wow. Wow. Okay, I did not want to put this book down and mad that work and sleep made me do so.

Our FMC is Wren, who is a rare blood witch that has suppressed and been living in fear of her powers and what the kingdom might do to her and her family due to being born with such powers. Blood witch powers are outlawed in the kingdom. Don't get me started on our morally grey MMC. Sin and I have a love-hate relationship right now. Singard is the Black Art (ruler) of the kingdom who continues to dole out punishments and feed prejudices of shifters and blood witches of the previous Black Art.

We start the book with learning of Wren in the hands and captive of the Legion (the rebels) who want to use her for her powers, but she was able to cleverly escape. Unfortunately, it left her right in the hands of the Black Art. She then learns of her sister's capture by the Legion, leaving her with no choice except to strike a deal with Singard.

The amount of action, clever schemes, and secrets in this book feels like our characters are playing on a chess board of turmoil. What traps and betrayals lay ahead? Who will win the long game? This is a slow burn enemies to lovers romance full of banter and steam. It was a little confusing with terminology in the beginning for world building, but give it a chance and it will speed up.The world building and character development was fantastic with the amount of detail that went into this book. The plot, turmoil, and romance will have readers turning pages quickly devouring Sin and Wren's story. This book was so worth the many emotions it provoked, but that plot twist at the end has me wishing I could get my hands on the second book now.
