Its such a mess idk where to start. It's a romance book, nothing more. There is no plot just 2 idiots doing a whole lot of nothing.

Whiplash enemies to lovers romance back to enemies. FMC supposed to have ungodly power but most of the time spent taking about it rather than displaying it. Just didn't capture my attention. Not convinced I'll read the next book of their story..

4 ⭐️ 2.5 🌶️ with ⛓️

This book is marketed as a captor / captive - enemies to lovers to enemies - messy /relationship… with spice. And all of that is 100% accurate! But also I wanted more?
The bones were all there, it just needed to be fleshed out a bit.

But when the author nailed it… she really nailed it!
There were some welcome plot surprises I didn’t see coming,
I loved the morally grey main characters—and the spice 🤌🏽⛓️
There was also some beautiful prose hidden between lots of action. (I wish there was more time to breathe around some of these lines to really take in the beauty of it)
All of this makes me excited to continue to read the series and to watch how the author grows in her writing.

While I was able to read this book very easily, and I enjoyed myself the whole time, there were a few craft issues that held me back rating it higher than a 4 ⭐️

Things moved very quickly, so I didn’t get a lot of time to feel the growth of the characters. This made for a fast paced & enjoyable read but it also kept me at arms length with the characters motivations.  I felt like I was watching it from the outside even though it was written in 1st POV.

Some of the plot was told to me and I was expected to take it for what it was, (believe the scenario) but some things just felt implausible.

I wanted to understand the magic system a bit more & have less descriptions on the plant life (yes the flowers are pretty but what type of magic does she have and how does she use it?)

Some of the words chosen felt odd at times—too much ‘fluid’ just call it blood?—Like the author was trying too hard to think outside the box when sometimes you just need to hold the hand of the reader & to explain things in black and white.

None of these things detracted from what was a really enjoyable story, but it did detract from it being an absolute BANGER!

I would still recommend this book if you are looking for a fast paced, spicy Romantasy with morally grey MC’s!

I will definitely pick up book 2.

5🌟🌶🌶🌶
A true enemies to lovers slow burn! Did not see that plot twist/cliffhanger coming!! Really excited for this series to continue. The magic system and world has a lot of potential! The tension and chemistry between the FMC and MMC is just delicious! Do check your trigger warnings.

The chemistry and banter between the FMC and MMC was so good right from the start. And it didn’t take away from them being actual enemies. This book was so good. It had the perfect balance between fantasy and romance. And such a good slow burn that felt so natural.
It ended on a cliffhanger, and what a cliffhanger it was! I can’t wait for the next book!

“I am a bloodwitch—no, a blood queen. And a queen bows for no one.”

Give me a second while I pick my jaw up off the floor, because that ending wrecked me a little. The Blood That Binds Us is nothing short of a dark delight of thrilling debut perfection. Once I hit about 30%, I could not put it down for anything.

With our MC, Wren, I love her strength and wittiness. Though she is unsure of her power, she is never unsure herself and I adored her constant snark and humor. Also, the love she has for her chosen family was also a gem.

On the other side… Singard. Oh Sin. Our brooding, all dark, morally grey, captor of pure strength and sexiness. At first, Sin is every bit the ruthless Black Art (king essentially) that he needs to be and I honestly I loved to hate him. However, as more pieces of Sin are uncovered I grew to love him and feel for him. My heart definitely went up and down for him in this story and I’ll be anxiously awaiting TBTBU2.

Alright, so let me touch on the romance here, because Erin executes a perfect enemies to lovers. In the beginning there’s not even an inkling of romance, just gorgeous, dark world building. When you think enemies to lovers, you usually still feel that initial attraction, where they are supposed to hate each other yet they don’t quite. In TBTBU, Sin and Wren truly start out as enemies. They do not like each other, they do not stand on the same side, and they do not care for each other in the slightest. When the tipping point hits though… phew is it spicccyyy and I loved it. However, there is also a realness to the “relationship”. How they hate each other, to understanding each other, to caring and then acting on it. It’s also a slow-burn at its finest.

Even more so, I love the world building too. The magics, the shifters, and everything in between. And then, the ending… my god the ending. The ending is gut-wrenching. It’s not necessarily a cliffhanger per se, but at the same time you NEED to know what happens next. Erin throws a couple amazing twists in the story that I also did not see coming. I love when an author can make my draw drop not just from the spice but from the twists.

Overall, such a dark delight of a story and I will be anxiously awaiting The Bonds That Break Us.
