A New Dawn

Excellent Prequel to Star Wars: Rebels

A New Dawn is an action-packed look at the origin of the partnership between Hera & Kanan. While independently working against an Imperial scheme to mine a world in a manner that make strip mining look environmentally friendly, Hera and Kanan meet and agree to work together to stop the Empire's plan.

It gives a good look at Kanan's background, and the source of his self-doubt. It also develops Hera more than the animated series has thus far, shedding light on her motivations and dedication to the budding Rebellion.

I like John Jackson Miller, but this book...it isn't badly written -- I just didn't find the story compelling. I could definitely wait to pick it up again, definitely not a page-turner for me.

Looooved this! It had all the sass and spirit of the original Star Wars trilogy, and I loved the characters! I can't wait to watch the TV show now.

takes a long time to get going and even at the end i didn't particularly care about some of the characters, but it does a good job moving along

Star Wars Rebels withdrawal symptoms. This tells the story of how Kanan and Hera met. It's enjoyable, but you would need to have extensive knowledge of SW races and technical jargon, it can be pretty confusing (Me: Google is your friend). Also, I wished this gave us more background on Hera. Also, Kanan didn't even use his lightsaber?!

An entertaining read. It did get me interested in the upcoming TV show, so I suppose it did its job. Still disappointed that this is a new universe, but the other books will still be (mostly) remembered.

While I’ve listened to many of the new Star Wars books in audio and most have some added sound effects; none have have been as intrusive as this one. I started getting a headache from the “ship/engine” sound. It made it impossible for me to concentrate on the story. So sad 😞
