I feel bad because I really wanted to love this book. I love Kanan and Hera, and I was interested in how they met what they were like post rebels. I found this book did have it's moments with the two of them that I really enjoyed, and some jokes I laughed out loud at. I didn't have a problem with Kanan and Hera, in fact I feel their backstory was fitting. My problem was more so the politics. I really did not care about a mining moon, at least not enough to spend the entire story there, and there did not need to be so much focus on the villain, I think it would be more effective if we didn't fully understand his plan and what he was planning . Also I felt there was way too much focus on the side characters at the expense of the main two heroes. I had a hard time continuing the book since the writing never seemed to focus enough on what I wanted to read about: Kanan and Hera.
I picked this up due to my current Star Wars book binge.
I haven't seen Star Wars Rebels and vaguely know the two main characters, so I didn't really know much going into this. I think this was the main problem that I had with it because I feel like you kind of had to know how the characters are as people in order to understand their personality / reasons for doing things and this all felt like it had to be prior knowledge from watching the animated series.
In saying that I did enjoy the main characters and it has prompted me to want to watch the series.
The book moved along really nicely and I didn't feel like there were many plot holes / problems with the events that happened and this was especially towards the end as things got more and more suspenseful. I do feel, however, that there was a little bit of jargon and such that I didn't really fully understand despite having watched and read a lot of Star Wars, I felt a little confused about the part of space they were in and such. But perhaps that is just me.
Overall I did enjoy it enough to rate it a pretty average rating of mine - 3/5.

Another great adventure in the Star Wars universe. The main villain was written well and extemely entertaining. Not to mention the fact that I loved how he was voiced in the audio book. The main characters were also well done, but not as interesting as some of the other protagonists in the new Star Wars novels (Lost Stars, Dark Disciple). My only complaint, is that the voice of Skelly was extremely annoying. Reminded me of Gilbert Godfried...whose voice I despise. But Marc Thompson is a phenomenal reader, my complaint is probably more with the Producer of the audiobook for choosing that creative direction for Skelly.
