I don't know what my expectations were, but I certainly didn’t expect to feel so seen and validated in Lamya’s experiences and views of queerness, gender non-conformity, and race. Such a beautiful memoir that provoked the “extreme” feminist in me, and made me feel okay with not fighting every fight.
Graphic: Homophobia, Racism, Transphobia, Islamophobia
Moderate: Suicidal thoughts
Minor: Deportation
This book is beautiful. Incredibly insightful and easy to relate to. At least for me. Lamya and I do not come from the same culture, nor do we have the same faith, but we exist in such similar ways that made me really appreciate their words and shared experiences.
I can relate to having been faced with moments of racism, colorism, homophobia, fear, hope, realization throughout my life... It's nice to know we're never truly alone.

Might reread when I actually have a will to live.
Liked some parts, others felt like you should keep them to yourself kinda thoughts.
I also liked the Quran reading book club.
