Based on social media posts I have seen about this book, I thought I was getting a why choose, dark romance set in the world of modern day Greek gods. I actually did not expect to enjoy this book as much as I did. However, the story was not what I expected. Instead of a dark romance between tormentors and a new initiate, I got a story of growth for Alexis as she discovers she is an Olympia and is forced to face the traumatic challenge required of her to become a Spartan. The writing is not the strongest I've read, but the character's voice is very real and authentic. The only truly spicy part of this book between Alexis and two of the four men comes at the very end. It's definitely a much slower burn than I expected. I ended up really liking this story, and literally got sucked into the audiobook so hard that I didn't want to stop. I will definitely be reading the sequel when it comes out. 4/5 stars
