4.04 AVERAGE

Love the illustrations. River had a hard time sitting still for this one.

This book is so fun on so many levels—the words, the pictures, the moral-of-the-story messages, the secret clues, the hidden pictures, and that gorgeous music that plays alongside. A big hit over here.

... What is this book? A mishmash of mediocre funny animal poems, inspirational sayings, for some reason an orchestra?, and I guess there are puzzles and things to find in the illustrations. For young readers who have the patience to seek out all the puzzles, this might be enjoyable? I guess I did not have the patience for it.

One of the worst authors of the past twenty years decides to write a picture book about animals and music and so forth, it has a scanning code thing that you can play music to the story, all a gimmick, very average.
adventurous funny lighthearted

This book of musical poems was written in 2020 by Dan Brown and illustrated by Susan Batori. Wild Symphony is wonderfully composed with many poems just about all the animals you can imagine. Reading these poems will make you smile if not laugh. While reading you feel as though you are transported there by the illustrations. This book would be great for K-2nd graders. There are so many animals to talk about and introduce. It is also a great book for began talking about fiction and fact. It is a wildly fun book to read.

Bats aren’t blind. Music was cool.
lighthearted relaxing medium-paced

Absolutely delightful! If I had kids I would definitely purchase this book for them.

This book was fun - there was music to go with each animal/poem.

Yes, this is written by *the* Dan Brown of Di Vinci Code fame. I was so shocked just seeing his name on the cover, and even moreso learning that Brown is also an incredibly impressive composer. On the surface, each page features a poem about the animals on that spread. But there are so many extras! Find letters hidden to unscramble and decode a secret message, and look for the reveal of each animals' instrument on the page following. Mouse always has a lesson to accompany all of the poems.

To top it all off, the book itself has a free, corresponding app of the same name with music composed for each poem by Dan Brown himself. Once you listen through the book on the app, one extra surprise might be revealed!

All in all, I am so impressed by Brown's first picture book with all of the bells and whistles to boot. I can't wait to see what he does next.

This Goodreads Choice Award Nominee for Picture Books (2020) has a lot going on. Each page highlights a new animal with a fun poem. Plus there are hidden letters, when unscrambled these letters spell out the instrument that the animal is playing in the grand finale. Plus there is an app that accompanies the book which plays each of the animals distinct song composed by the author. This was an interesting new way to experience a picture book and the music was fantastic! What a great way to introduce children to classical music and instruments.

The poems were well written, but what I did not care for was the sign that followed each poem, declaring the moral theme of the poem. This was too much, unnecessary, annoying and diluted the power of the poems. Let children think for themselves and work out the message of the poem on their own!!!

I can see this book being used in the classroom, but it is quite long so I don't know that it would be good for storytime, maybe selectively in pieces.
